From the values of electronegativities how can conclude about the nature of bond formed?

Answer»

Solution :(i) If the electronegativity is less than 1.7, then bond will be COVALENT.
(II) If the electronegativity is more than 1.7, then the bond will be IONIC.
Example :
(i) `N_(2):N =3.0`, difference = 0 (Covalent bond)
(ii) `MgF_(2), Mg=1.2, F=4`, difference = 2.8 (Ionic bond)
The electronegativities of some elements are as given below:
