In a college hostal , a clever warden in order to know what thestudents are doing in theroom in his absence during night he switched off thelight in thecorridor and watchedtheroom through a glass partitionfrom the corridor. Explain why the objects in the room are more clearly visible when he switchedoff thecorridor lights than whenthere is light in the corridor.

Answer»

Solution :Light from thecorridor is reflected by theglass pane separating it from the dark room. This reflected light enters our EYE along with thelight from inside thedark room. Since reflected light is more than the lightfrom the room andalso more intense, we cannot see THETHINGS inside the room. When the LIGHTS in the CORRIDOR are switched off, the light from the room now enters our eyes and the visibility improves.
