1.

Listtwo distinguishing features between overloading and short circuiting .

Answer»

Solution :If the live and neutral wires come in CONTACT directly or INDIRECTLY due to defective or damaged wiring in an appliance, the resistance of he circuit becomesalmost zero and a HUGE current flows through the circuit. Thisis called shortcircuiting. It may damage the appliance and also cause heating oftheline wires, electric SPARK, fire, etc. Short circuiting can be prevented by using an electric fuse in a live wire.
Overloading occurs when many appliances are switched on at the same time and theydraw a large current [exceeding 5 Afor lighting circuit and15 A for heating circuit] from the mains, or due to an accidental hike in the supply VOLTAGE. This causes overheating of the wires which may result in fire or damage theappliances. This can be avoided by using an electric fuse in live a wire.
