Both of these parties have a national party level group that more or less oversees the state and local party levels.There are many functions that political parties do-\tRecruiting candidates for public office is one of the most important functions that political parties have.\tAn important goal of political parties is to gain control of the government, and to do this, parties must work to recruit candidates for all elected offices.\tPolitical parties also actively try to gather volunteers to help register voters as well as organize and run the election day voting. The ultimate goal is to get the person the party supports to win an election.\tThe main purpose of political parties is to join people who hold similar points of view about the government together.\tAn independent may vote for a Republican for president and a Democrat for senator.\tThe Republicans and Democrats work hard to understand this group of voters.\xa0\tParties must promote a broad set of core beliefs to reach their members as well as independent voters. Even those voters who choose to be affiliated with a certain party tend to choose candidates who hold a middle of the road view. | |
