Answer» Solution :In molten sodium chloride , only `Na^(+) and CL^(-)` IONS are PRESENT ,whereas in an aqueous solution of sodium chloride four types of ions , NAMELY , `Na^(+) , Cl^(-) , H^(+) and OH^(-)` ions are present . On electrolysis of molten sodium chloride ,sodium of sodiumchloride , hydrogen GAS is produced at the cathode , and chlorine gas is produced at the anode , whereas a solution of sodium hydroxide is formed in the cell . |
