Out of soap and detergent, which is more effective? Why? The use of detergent has increased over soap. Why? |

Answer» Solution :Detergent is more effective. Soap reacts with the `Ca^(2+)` and `Mg^(2+)` ions present in hard WATER and gives PRECIPITATES. THUS, soap is wasted. Detergent does not give precipitates with such ions but gives soluble salts. Due to this reason detergent is not wasted and so LESS quantity of detergent is enough for cleaning. Thus, the USE of detergent has increased over soap. |
