Question : As per Mendel's law, describe the independent assortment of two separate traits (round and green seeds) with (wrinkled and yellow seeds) along with diagram.

Answer»

Solution :According to law of independent assortment the two or more different traits are independently passed to the next generation. In other words the receiving of different tratis by the off-spring generation is independent of CHARACTERS (traits) present the parent generation.
This can be proved by taking example of a dihydrid cross. The two pure pea PLANTS have round/green seeds and wrinkled/yellow seeds. In `F_(2)` generation we have round/yellow seeds, round/green seeds, wrinkled/green seeds and wrinkled/yellow seeds. This proves that the characters are passed independently. The diagram is as shown below
`{:("PARENTS","Round/Green Seeds",,"Wrinkled/Yellow seeds"),(,"RRGG"," "xx,"rrgg"),("Grametes","RGG",,"rg"),(F_(1)" Generation",," RrGg",),("Gamets",,,):}`

`{:("Phenotypic","Round Green",:,"Round Yellow",:,"Wrinkled Green",:,"Wrinkled Yellow"),("Ratio","9",:,"3",:,"3",:,"1"):}`
