It can be induced by physical events such as heat or cold treatment, X-rays and chemical agents like colchicine. Polyploid cell or organism has three or more times the haploid chromosomal number. Polyploid has a major role in the EVOLUTION of both wild and cultivated plants. Polyploid has a key role in plant breeding. There is increase and increased woodiness which has been OBSERVED in some insular plants. So polyploids are characterized by GIGANTISM. |
