Question : The magnification produced by a plane mirror is +1. What does this means. An object is placed at a distance of 10cm from a convex mirror of focal length 15cm .Find the position and nature of the image. |
|
Answer» SOLUTION :The positive, sign means IMAGE formed by a plane MIRROR is virtual and erect SINCE the magnification is 1. It means that the size of the image is equal to the size of the object. Focal length of convex mirror, f=+15cm. Object distance, u = -10 cm According to the mirror formula ` rArr 1/v = 1/f - 1/u` ` rArr 1/v = (2 + 3)/(30)` ` rArr 1/v = 5/30` ` rArr 6cm ` Magnification ` = - v/u = (-6)/(-10) = 0.6` The image is located at the distance 6 cm from the mirror on the other side of the mirror. The positive sign and value less than 1 of the magnification INDICATES that the image formed virtual and erect and diminished. |
