Solve : 780i SATA driver problem?

I bought a 780i mobo from EVGA and when I installed the drivers, I cannot use my DVD drives. EVGA said it was because of the Nvidia drivers and they said I had to use the standard drivers from Microsoft. I was wondering how to uninstall the Nvidia drivers and install the XP ones. That is the one point where EVGA has not helped me. Apparently this is a common problem on the 780i.

I had same prob... but i kept the nVidea drivers due to the updates are way more FREQUENT and bug free.

I updated my dvd driver. check for the latest 780i version then go on your dvd MANUFACTURERS website and get its latest and read on their forum if others are having probs.

You may have to use an older driver version of the 780i for your dvd driver to be compatible.

What updates are you talking about? I have not received any updates. My drivers for the 780i are the ones that came with the mobo.I updated the firmware on both of the drives but they still do not show up in the Safely Remove Hardware icon/box.installing the drivers that come with the cd before checking the manufacturers website is not the thing that you want to do...The SATA drivers were for the mobo, not the drives. As ar as I know the drivers on the CD and the ones on Nvida's are the same so it doesn't matter. I just want to know how I can install the micrsoft drivers over them so I can use the drives without having a BSOD.so you just want the generic driver?yeah, so I can use my drives. This may very well be the issue...do you have a link for the firmware updates ? ?For the Plextor: http://www.plextor.com/English/support/support_downloads.html#firm (I have a Plextor PX-810SA DVD±R/RW)

For the Lite-On: http://www.liteonit.com/global/index.php?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=75 (I have a Lite-On LH-20A1L-06)the generic drivers will not get you far.
and think again if you are going to be gaming...All right, what are my options? Just sit around and hope Nvidia updates soon or are there other drivers I can use? Why won't my drive firmware flash correctly?

Troubleshooting firmware update problems:

       1. The firmware utility returns an error when I try to update:

    a.Possible software conflict. Reboot in safe mode and try to flash.

    b. Possible DMA issue

    - Disable DMA in your system. Enable DMA after flashing the firmware.

    - For drives with a DMA jumper (SEE your user manual for jumper locations) install the jumper to force the drive into Multiword DMA mode. Remove the jumper after successfully running the flash utility for your drive.

    c. Possible ASPI issue. ASPI software may be missing or corrupted.

            2.  The drive will not write a CD after I update the firmware.

           1. For Windows systems, go to the Device manager and delete any CD-R/RW devices listed under the DVD/CD-ROM category
           2. Reboot your system and allow the OS to detect and re-register your CD-R/RW devices



You may have to do these in safemode since you are BSOD'ing...i'm not a big fan of flashing firmware when everything is running fine.The problem has not changed since I upgraded the firmware.

I never got an error code, only it was completed flashing.

How do I enable/disable DMA?

When I uninstall both of the driver from the device manger only one will be installed correctly, the other one wlil be labeled as CD_ROM drive

It is now more than the SATA drivers, when I plugged in my USB flash drive is also BSOD with the same error codes.

If it helps when I reinstalled XP every time I installed a driver it said all of them were not signed and should it continue any ways. It never asked me that before.

Would a picture of the BSOD be helpful, since it is on screen for a while.Do you have a shiny XP CD that says MS all over it with holograms ? ?
