Solve : Need to clone a hard disk?

Answer»

For reference:
LINUX VERSIONS can boot from a CD and run in RAM. But very old PCs never boot from a CD, only the floppy or Hard drive. There are, in fact, floppy drive boot loaders for Linux that let you bring up the rest of the Linux system from the CD. Once that is done., you can copy Windows  documents to a blank floppy drive.

Have u tried slaving it to a desktop....? hence that way u will be able to access all the programs installed? You can not clone to a internal drive.
The internal drive is the system drive.
Doing a clone means doing the whole thing.

An alternative is doing a partition copy, if the drive has enough space for another partition. A partition copy is not the same as a clone. Unless there is one one partition.

That is false...i've done it a thousand TIMES with a 2nd or 3rd HDD connected.
It can also be done in his situation INSIDE a working Desktop with both the laptop HDD and the destination HDD hooked up as slaves....
All he has to do is remember to set the destination HDD as Active.
