Answer» A few questions I have- 1. The biggest thing I'm TRYING to figure out is a way to submit backgrounds for others to use for free. Only problems I keep running into and not sure if I'm also creating them correctly either. Problem is I RUN into the file being to big, and I'm not sure exactly the size I need to make it be? It says it needs to be under 50KB Currently the size of my picture is 960px x 720px
How would I reduce the size? I've opened my .gif that I created using PowerPoint in Paint and if I go up to the top and click on Image and then attributes, it brings up an area where you can type in a width and height, and has measurements of units- inches, cm and pixels. Currently Pixels is marked. Anyways, what would I type in for the width and height so that it is the correct size?
Also, is that the correct way to create backgrounds that you can submit, by using PowerPoint? Or could I use Microsoft Word and then save just the background out of Microsoft Word with no text or any writing. See, I know how in Microsoft Word to format the background, but not sure exactly what to do after that, how to just save the background itself somewhere that I could submit somewhere.
Thanks, AmySorry do you mean a screen dump? I'm not sure what you mean by submitting a background?? I f you want to do a screen dump press 'Prt Sc' Go on to 'Paint' Then just press ctrl V.
I'm not sure if that's what you want though...Or, are you trying to make wallpaper or desktop backgrounds?submitting backgrounds for websites is what I'm trying to do. Many sites use GIF backgrounds that are seamless tiles. Yes, I know what extension to make it. I just need to know the measurements- dimensions to make it in width and height so that it's not too big. It says my file is too big. Says it needs to be under 50KB. I'm trying to figure out what that is in terms of pixels? Currently the size of it is 960px x 720px which they say is too big. I'm not sure what to change those numbers to in order to make it not be over 50KB? What resolution are you using for your files? It says it's currently at 960px x 720px which I have no idea what that means about it being too big since it says it needs to be under 50kB. What are those numbers I have above? I'm not so good on measurements as you can see. Some basic info HERE.I went to the page you gave me, but can SOMEONE help me understand it though? Here are the dimensions so far of my image 960px x 720px Please tell me what exactly that computes to? 960Px*720 Px = 691,200 Pixels in the image.
Each pixel is, since it's a GIF image, 256 Colours. that's 1 BYTE each, so:
691,200 bytes storage- which is 675KB.
Of course GIF has LZW compression, but there is very little chance that 675KB image can be compressed to less then 50KB and still portray a useful image.
Here are three photos of Harry in JPG format. http://help9pm.com/jpg/ <= click link to see index Click on a photo and when it comes up right click and do properties. The browser should show the display size in pixels and the data size in KB. The diffence is in the compression rations of 2, 8, and 32 respectively.
