Here's what happens on my Win XP Pro system, with Office 2003: Notice that, in the lower image, the two Word taskbar buttons have been stacked and a number 2 appears next to the Word ICON to indicate two Word windows are open. That's if you check the 'Group Similar Taskbar Buttons'.
