Solve : A strange file?

Answer»

Good day all, I've come across a strange file on/not on my computer.

I found an unfamiliar LINK doing a clean up of my WMP library. So I CLICKED on it and a song played. I clicked on it's properties, and it showed me a file name I can't explain :

mms://media.alldanzradio.com/choiceradiobb/bb/rr/Falls Apart.wma?channel=382

I can't find that file anywhere on the computer, neither can my computer find it.

When I paste the address into explorer address bar, it brings up WMP and starts playing that song. It plays even when I'm not connected to the internet, so it's living somewhere on my system.

What is it, where does it live etc?

I use Win xp pro sp3. My setup is not wireless.

Any help would be appreciated.

AinH
Same here.

You may want to have a look at this:

What it is, is a media file on an internet server.

Try going to Windows Media Player, Open URL, and paste that media URL.Hi CD, thanks for the reply
I've done a bit of reading about it too, thanks much to the link you put up.

Question: if I'm not connected to the internet, and my file search can't find the file on my computer, meaning it's not in my computer, how can this file play? In other words, if it's coming from outside my computer, ie internet, how does it WORK if I'm not connected?
What's more, I'd like to delete it from my computer, if it's there, but I can't find it. Makes me think what else is sitting in my computer that I can't see or find
AinHhow exactly are you disconnecting from the internet to test this?Ahaaaa ! Quote from: BC_Programmer on March 09, 2009, 09:43:57 AM

Under network connections I right click on the internet icon and disable it. After that, I have no internet connection and can't do a thing!
To re-establish my internet connection I right click on the icon and then Enable. Back into business!
Tne file is probably stored in the cache....I agree with Kpac. It would be stored on your computer somewhere. However, once I restarted, I can no longer play the file without internet connection.

UNPLUGGED my internet cable. I then tried it on another computer without internet, and it couldn't find the file.

well... I was actually referring to the original poster  Ok, so if it's sitting in my cache, why can't my search function find it?
I didn't think of emptying my cache to get rid of it...   I'll do that tomorrow. thanks all Quote from: AinH on March 10, 2009, 03:19:58 PM
Ok, so if it's sitting in my cache, why can't my search function find it?

Because the folder the cache is in is called AppData, and is hidden.

Just delete the file from your WMP library, and then download and run ATF Cleaner.I think AinH wants to keep the song.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XQZcNzftyv4actually I want to get rid of it. Mainly because I don't know how it got there to start with and am a bit ticked that something comes in and hides itself so well. The song doesn't interest me anyway...
I've downloaded the link you put up Kpac, and ran it, so thanks for that.  The pesky song is gone along with it's secretive hiding place.
Thanks to all for your interest and helpHeh, all right. Good work!
