Solve : A way to get the files to my computer??

Answer»

I'm currently trying to get my computer working properly again. Been using my mom's for most things.
Wondering if when I'm on my computer, how would I access the files that are located on her computer so that I can get the information I need back onto mine?

Thanks,
Amy
Get a USB stick to hold and transfer your data.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB_flash_driveor... if your computer is on the same network you can access the adminshare of her computer, assuming theyre both windows. You need to go to my network places, and find her computer. Double click it and youll see like a printers folder. Up at the top youll see SOMETHING like \\%moms computers name here%\ at the top, add a c$ to that so it reads \\%moms computer name here%\c$. It will ask you for a username and password, ask your mom to log in for you. you then have access to that computers C:\ drive through the network.another way is to use a CAT5 cable that connects one computer to another. See this link for the instructions with using one.Ok, I'm not sure exactly what all we need to do. We already have all that stuff setup back when we switched from Earthlink Dialup to Bellsouth DSL. My nephew and his dad did the wiring from my computer to my mom's computer.
Here is our setup:
Ethernet Cable Cat. 6
Wall Plate Cat. 5
Cable from wall plate to back of computer- Cat. 5

I went in My Network Places, but not sure if I'm understanding the next things to do. Also, you say she needs to login and something about a username and password. So, does she need to go to some site and sign up for something first? For example, on any sites you go to, you have to click on register and then choose a username and then do the password stuff. I don't see how you can login somewhere with a username and password unless you register/sign-up. Quote

No, this is completely separate from going to the Internet.

What operating system is on each of the computers -- I don't remember.Using a USB drive and/or burning the files to CD would probably be alot easier than attempting to setup a HOME network...
What files are these ? ?Windows XP.
Don't we already have a home network setup? I thought we did since there is a modem and router that are on my computer and goes out to her computer. See if we turn off the powerstrip, then the modem and router would be off and then no CONNECTION to internet anymore on her computer.
See I can already print using her printer. Like when I want to print something, I go to print and then I find the name of her printer listed on mine.

A bunch of different files- pictures, files I've created using all kinds of programs like Wordpad, Notepad, powerpoint, Word, etc.. Sharing an internet connection and having a network set up are 2 different things...
Can you see her machine from yours and vice versa ? ?
If so you already have it setup and it's just a matter of finding the files you want and COPYING them to your machine via the network.Have you run the Network Setup Wizard on both computers?
