I installed software that creates virtual CD drives, and it broke Nero 6 from recognizing the CD-RW drive as a CD-RW drive. I uninstalled the virtual CD Drive software which creates images of CD's so constant swapping or CD in drive is not required, but Nero 6 is still not detecting a supported drive to burn CDs. I uninstalled Nero 6 and reinstalled it and still have same problem.

Anyone know where I should look or am missing if software has been uninstalled and Nero 6 reinstalled, and drive is not supported.

I took this CD-RW drive to another system and it works to burn discs, but this system is messed somehow. HOPING i can fix this without having to rebuild as it is HIGHLY configured.

Copy and paste ALL the following text in maroon below into Notepad.
Click on File(in the menu at the TOP)>Save as../Save as Type: 'All FILES' /File name: fix.reg to your desktop.
Then double click on the fix.reg file on your desktopand agree to merge the information into the registry,then restart your pc.

I tried what you suggested and rebooted. It confirmed so I know it took the change. But still same results. Attached you will see that in the drop down for Nero 6 the Samsung CD-RW drive is not an option as it used to be and default is showing to create a .nrg or .iso save image file. The CD-RW device is missing from list. It use to be selectable prior to the http://www.cdrom-emulator.com/ install which broke it. Of course they deny it was their software, but all was well before their software on this XP Pro SP3 system.

It used to have Image Recorder CD-RW with Samsung CD-RW below it. Image Recorder only creates image files unfortunately.

Maybe there is something else to be tweaked in registry. I am guessing that the key change you gave me was the base config from a clean box which would have resolved changes maybe?

[attachment deleted by admin]Solved Problem --- Hardware Drivers Incorrect for DVD-CD-RW...Uninstalled Device and Reinstalled Device in Hardware Manager and it came back. What a PITA, but very happy to be able to burn again. Thanks for your registry help. Forcing keys might have helped too.



[attachment deleted by admin]Nero sometimes screws up the upper & lower filter settings so we just reset them to default. Glad you got it sorted out - thanks for posting back.
