Solve : Alps Driver for Dell C840?

Answer»

I have a Dell C840 laptop with a 'stick' and touchpad that I can't SEEM to get working. I d/l-ed the driver from the Dell site and INSTALLED it; the mouse properties show that I have it installed and Device Manager shows that it is working properly...but...I get no MOVEMENT on the pad with either the stick or the pad. I do have an external USB wheel mouse plugged in that does work.

I have a D600 Latitude as well that has the Alps software/driver (5.4.104.4, dated 10/19/2005). However, the driver I d/l-ed from the Dell site is 5.4.102.8, dated 8/21/2004. I cannot seem to find the 2005 version for d/l.

I also noticed that when I click on the 'touchpad icon' (at the bottom RIGHT for the screen), I get a 'Mouse Properties' window different from what I get when I do the same thing on the D600 laptop, i.e., the D600 laptop has about 2X more tabs from which to choose than does the version on the C840....hence I assume is the difference and difficulty.

Any help and or direction would be appreciated.
