I've seen plenty of UTILITIES that can make an animated GIF that advance at a PRESET speed. Is it possible to make one that you advance manually, much like a slideshow on MANUAL? I need it to be playable in the browser.
RickNot possible within the animated gif specification. Instead you could preload individual gif files and use javascript to "advance" them.That would be a bit much for what I had in mind. All I wanted was to insert a series of screen captures (firewall alerts and the connection status screen) into a forum post as a single image that the reader could advance manually. Most of them don't allow HTML in a post. I doubt they'd permit Javascript. I suppose I could set it to a much lower speed so they'd all be readable. Is there another format that would do this and display in a browser? Some form of slideshow possibly?

Give us a demo if you decide to do it.What I was looking to make would be similar to this, except it would be recording events that move faster. This is one I posted at the AntiVir forum to show how their updater is starting duplicate system processes(schedm.exe). This one doesn't repeat. Instead of using up the space here, I just linked to it. Worked fine in the preview when inserted as an image. I was just hoping that there was a way to make these advance manually.

I'll have to look into that. It's not something I'd need that often so I can't justify BUYING Macromedia.I have come across a freeware SWF editor in my travels. Unfortunately I can't for the life of me remember what it was called. Not very helpful I'm afraid. But if someone else here knows what it's called, or if you fancy a big Googlehunt, you may be in luck.Have you checked the macromedia website?? Maybe they will give you a free trial?
