Solve : Anti-virus software?

Answer»

I know that this has been covered over and over but I am looking for a fresh look at what is out there for free coverage. I have a win 7 machine that I used AVG for a while. I UNINSTALLED it because I got sick of the popups asking me to run a system check for errors or upgrade to the pro version ...etc.  I would log on and get about 3 or 4 popups. I just got sick of clicking no and then being asked to reboot for the new program.

So  What is out there that is free and works good?

Thanks
Yeah... pop ups are very annoying.

You can go to Google and ask for a list of the best free antivirus programs. Of course, the first thing you'll get will be paid advertisements. But go down about 3 or 4 items and you should find a list somebody is made of the best free antivirus programs at the current time.

Here are some names you will likely see.

Avast

Avira

AWG

And many others you've already heard about anyway such as Norton.  MSE...now known as Windows Defender...
Also add the following:
MBAM
SuperAntiSpyware
Stinger on demand
Win Patrol.

All Free.Remember to only install one antivirus!

1) Avast! Home Edition
2) AVG Free Edition
3) Avira AntiVir Personal
4) MicroSoft Security Essentials   All versions and all languages.
5) Comodo Antivirus (Uncheck during installation "Install Comodo SafeSurf..", Make Comodo my default search provider" and "Make Comodo Search my homepage" if you choose this one)

It is strongly recommended that you run only one antivirus program at a time. Having more than one antivirus program active in memory USES additional resources and can result in program conflicts and false virus alerts. If you choose to install more than one antivirus program on your computer, then only one of them should be active in memory at a time.
