I searched before I asked this question, I must be a bad searcher because I didn't find my answer.  Over the years as I've been on this forum, I have noticed a lot of you recommend AVG or Avast as being free.  I installed AVG and it keeps telling me I have x number of days left before it runs out.  If it's free, what am I running out of?  Do I have to reinstall it every 30 days?  Or is there an antivirus you like better?  I was using Windows Defender and finally got my new computer and put AVG on here.  I haven't had any problems except for the popups telling me I'm running out of time.
You are probably using a 30days trial of the PAID version of AVG, and after 30 days it runs out.
AVG has a free version. After your 30 days is over, AVG will allow you to switch into the free version (less features, but still functional).You're better off with Windows Defender.I was gonna say...what was wrong with Defender ? ?I have also ended up with 30 day trial thinking free version and you do have free version with less features and please check in their website and it mentions 'Free download' and also list the features available in free version. AVG's free version has worked fine SEVERAL years for me and I update it (still the free version) when AVG prompts me.
However, you do have to pay close attention and choose the free version download. They naturally would prefer you take one of their priced OPTIONS, but really the free version does fine. I have not tried Avast, but have likewise seen it recommended also.
