Solve : asrock motherboard?

Answer»

Hi i will try to explain this best as possible. I have a dell deminsion 2400 that had a motherboard with only pci slots. And i want to add a graphics card. Well we all know those are slim pickings in pci without some $$. So a friend and i got a new motherboard (asrock p4vm890 - fsb800 ddr400) so that i could use a pcie gcard. The p4 is a 478 chipset, and it has two 512 sticks of pc3200. Once we installed the mboard and the gcard ( GEFORCE 7300 gt 256mb) we knew we might have to run the dell rescue disk to even get into windows. ( windows xp home with latest patch). Well now here i am and i cannot use diagnostics because the motherboard is not recognized as dell original hardware. So will not work. I WOULD like to keep from formatting my harddrive if at all possible. is there anyway possible to install my drivers onto my harddrive and make it work. Maybe thru dos?

Any help would be well appreciated.

RayDell software is keyed to only be used on Dell machines. The license is likewise tied to the machine (in this case the motherboard) so that it cannot also be used on a different hardware configuration without Microsoft's approval (per the OEM license). In addition all support for the software must be done through the OEM (Dell), not Microsoft. Frankly I am surprised that motherboard fit in there to start with.so its probably format time huh..Quote from: AntaliveDM on April 27, 2007, 07:00:05 PM

Yeah, if you're very lucky and you went to church last Sunday.
Sorry dude, but this was a very bad idea to begin with.
Dell crap is so proprietary it's tough to try to mix in mainstream components.

I'm surprised that you got the power supply and front panel connections to work.

Unless you just put this thing back the way you found it, you will probably have to install an OEM or retail XP to get it to work.
And that's more money....
IOW, it will no longer be a Dell and IOW, you should have just built a new box.

Let us know how it goes.well i had to lengthen the front panel wires and take the asrock board wire diaghram and match the power button wires, HdD activity light and power light. ANd with a little time it worked. BUT im going to take my old hd and put another one in, put windows on it. Then copy my files off the old one. then i should be ok. YOu are right though i really just NEEDED to build off of a new case. But funds wouldn't ALLOW. So when im done i will be satisfied. I Will see you all on cs:s.Well good luck with that plan. Do let us know how it turns out.just love the sarcasium...What's sarcasium ? ?Quote from: patio on April 28, 2007, 11:05:45 AM

Element No. # 104 only found in Human beings. I've never been accused of being "sarciastic" since the late 60's. I meant your first plan was off-base from the start and I sincerely hope you get Plan B to work as you intend. Quote from: GX1_Man on April 28, 2007, 11:51:59 AM

The 60's.. When folks were still decent and they carved driving licenses out of stone. Sigh. Heh. well all is well. I got a new maxtor 160gb sata harddrive and installed it and also turned Raid off in the bios, because i probably didn't have the driver for it. So it worked and i installed xp pro on it and have been gaming like crazy with 30 tick on CSS. thanks for the help.

Oh and just copied the old files from old harddrive.
