But honestly, I just google whatever type of software I'm looking for:

For instance, if looking for a decent photo editing program, I'd google this:

download freeware photo editor

or if you have a mac, search for

There is also a link to a list of those sites you can download. Please be careful with what you install. Many free downloads may have viruses attached, or might include malware or spyware as part of their installation.
I would look around and COME up with a couple titles you're interested in, then ask the boards opinion about specific software titles before installing. You might otherwise do youself and your new laptop a bit of harm!
