Solve : BSOD On New Build: Driver Issue or the Like?? |
|
Answer» Hello everyone. I recently put TOGETHER a new system of mine and decided to test out the video card to make sure all the drivers and such were working. So i installed a game and began playing. After a few minutes into it, the computer flashed the infamous blue screen of death with an error message and rebooted. Since I couldn't read the message the was displayed, I turned off auto-reboot and tried the game again. After playing through the game for a few moments the computer displayed the error screen again. It read as follows: Couple of question First: Did a memory diagnostic, if that's what you meant by memory check. The test ran through a total of 13 passes before I stopped it. It passed all the tests except for Stride6, which it failed a few times and passed a few others, not quite sure what that means. Second: Nope, haven't been able to update the BIOS, can't seem to find the appropriate updates. Also not quite sure how to install em. Third: I personally haven't done any overclocking, however my MoBo came with an overclocking program along with an energy saving program that I messed around a bit with, however i set it back to the default settings, or at least to my knowledge. Fourth: Haven't used a different video card, about to do so right now, will post about it afterwards. And FINALLY fifth: Yeah I've been using the computer for regular uses, including email and such, and everything works fine and runs smoothly. I only run into problems when playing games. Note: The truth is this computer isn't EVEN for me but a family friend. I have till the 20 something'th to fix it so fast RESPONSES are even more appreciated, but don't think I'm trying to rush you. To my knowledge ALL of my drivers are up to date, and my BIOS should be running just fine. I'll post back once I get my personal video card into the computer. =)With my personal 7800 GT video card, with drivers updated, on the new build comp, I'm still getting errors and I got a nv4_disp.dll blue screen error after a bit. Apparently it's not the video card. o.OTry an ATI brand card and see if it BSODs. If it does, then, like you said, it's not the video card. If it doesn't, then there's some serious corruption with the nVidia drivers on the PC...Quote from: killerb255 on September 11, 2008, 08:55:04 PM Try an ATI brand card and see if it BSODs. Here's the problem, I won't be able to get my hands on an ATI Video Card, so what should I do? If i need to I can just reformat the drive or reinstall windows. i've already tried using a driver cleaner and reinstalling the nvidia driver and still no dice. Ugh this is frustrating.Quote from: poopmonkey124 If i need to I can just reformat the drive or reinstall windows. If that's what you want to do, go for it. After the OS is back up and running, download the latest drivers off of nVidia's website. If you're still having problems, then it's a hardware problem of some type: 1) bad PCI-e slot 2) bad power supply (or power supply is insufficient) 3) bad six-pin power supply to video card connector 4) bad stick o RAM--use Memtest 86 to check 5) bad hard drive--run CHKDSK 6) bad motherboard |
