Solve : Burning a CD/VCD to DVD??

Answer»

I want to burn a VCD specifically to a DVD, but I know there are some format kinks to work out which I don't quite understand. I have a DVD-RW drive, a CD-RW drive, and I used Nero Express 6, and found out obviously that you can't just copy a disc that isn't in the same format as the other one.

My question is, is there anyway possible of transferring the video from the VCD to the DVD? I think you can copy the data from the VCD to the computer first, then burn it onto the DVD or something, but I'm concerned that the DVD won't be read or work on a DVD player UNLESS it's a DVD drive on the computer.

Any help and explanations will be appreciated. Thanks. =)In order to ensure that the copy will be a success, you can't just copy files over -- you are correct about that.

Forgive me, but, I must ask before I go on -- this is a legally owned VCD, right? Not accusing you of anything; I ask because generally illegally pirated VCDs don't work very well.I believe it's a legally owned VCD, but how do I check? If you didn't steal it yourself, chances are it's legal. You'd have to download it.

To properly burn a VCD, you need to create an "image" of the disk on your computer. I don't know if Nero Express will work for this. You'll need to have a program create an ISO file from the VCD onto your computer, and burn that to the DVD in question. So after I make an image, what kind of process do I have to do to burn it onto the DVD? (Like "Make a DVD-Video" and those sort of options)SoulFire..... What function in Nero 6 ( suite) are you using ........?
Are you trying to simply copy the vcd or are you trying to convert it to dvd ?
What is the format of the data on the cd ?

I guess I really am pretty clueless when it comes to this ...

Anyhow, I was trying to covert the VCD into a DVD. The format of the data is a "DAT file", which opens with Windows Media Player, and there's also a couple of files under a .VCD format, which do not open.

And I haven't a clue what to do on Nero to burn this kind of thing. I know it's easier just to make a complete copy, but I was going to give this conversion a try. Sounds much more difficult than I expected. :-/Quote

Have you tried that? No, I haven't. However, this method is the most sure-fire method of GETTING a disk burned, and it seems a logical solution. If I am wrong in this, and VCDs are different, I apologize for the confusion.I was actually asking the OP, because they still haven't got it sorted.
I guess I COULD ask you too, why not.
Seems like it should work to me, but I can't test it because I don't use Nero, and I haven't got a VCD handy. No I haven't tried it, because it doesn't appear to be an option. SoulFire...... Here's something that may ASSIST you .

dl65 Thank you very much. =) Hey, Calum, you weren't asking me? Oops. oh well, it's good to know if I haven't tried something. I probably should have mentioned that. Of course, dl65 is right on the money with a great answer.
