Solve : Buying new computer. Need help narrowing it down.?

Answer»

I alone can not REVIEW every computer manufacturers computers to find the one with everything I am looking for. It doesn't matter WHOS computer I get as long as it has the specs I need.
First of all It must be compatible with my HP All-in-one Printer C4280 AND Radius Plug and Play Monitor.
Now it's requirements:
Desktop
2.6 ghz processor or more
4 gigs of ram or more
Any of these video cards:
NVIDIA GeForce series

      FX 5900, FX 5950
      6200, 6500, 6600, 6800
      7200, 7300, 7600, 7800, 7900, 7950
      8400, 8500, 8600, 8800
      9300, 9400, 9500, 9600, 9800
      G100, GT 120, GT 130, GTS 150
      GTS 250, GTX 260, GTX 280, GTX 285, GTX 295

ATI Radeon™ series

      9500, 9600, 9800
      X300, X600, X700, X800, X850
      X1300, X1600, X1800, X1900, X1950
      2400, 2600, 2900
      3450, 3650, 3850, 3870
      4850, 4870

Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA)

      GMA 3-Series, GMA 4-Series
This can be optional but prefered: a second slot for an extra hardrive.
And I am willing to pay 300-500 dollars.

If anyone can help, I would gladly appreciate it.Why do you think you need 4GB of RAM?

I think this is worth a look: Compaq - Presario Desktop with AMD Athlon™ II X2 Dual-Core Processor

4gb was recommended to be able to play the sims 3 smoothly.
some say that a compaq is low in quality. can brands be compared or just the specs matter and are the same performance? You want us to do 50 vid card comparisons for you ? ?I'm not a gamer but I see the system requirements for sims 3 are really not very stringent. If you got that Compaq I mentioned, perhaps you should anticipate installing an add-on video card for better video performance than the onboard video.  However, I think I'd try playing the game with onboard video before buying a card and see how it goes.

As far as a general statement about Compaq quality, I'd say it depends on what you want to use your computer for.  I have no shame is REVEALING I have a Compaq laptop (purchased July 2007) and a Compaq d530 CMT desktop (given to me and some upgrades done by me).  But, my guess it is't not a favorite brand among hard-core gamers.

Again, for Simms 3, my impression is that that Compaq would do fine.

You might state you budget for this.  That would be helpful info for anyone else thinking of posting a reply.Keep in mind Soybean that Sims lies dramatically about their requirements...
There have been NUMEROUS threads from people who met the requirements only to find the system hangs whenever they try to run it.I agree with Soybean regarding Compaq. I think they are fine, depending on your usage. Not exactly a gaming PC, but good enough for most uses.

I was a PC gamer in the past, but two young children and other life events have kind of curtailed that. I don't know the current requirements (true requirements) for Sims 3, but here are a couple places you might look for a PC:
  • www.ibuypower.com - They specialize in gaming PCs. You might even try e-mailing them, ask if they have someone on the staff who plays Sims 3, and what the real specs are.
  • www.newegg.com - This is a good online store for lots of computer needs. You can search for desktops within your price range and with certain specs.
  • www.costco.com - Don't LAUGH. Costco is great for many reasons. They offer 90 day return policy, so if you don't like it, you can bring it back. They also offer their own tech support service AND they extend manufacturer warranties by an extra year.

Good luck!u ask for a lot of space of memory(4 gb) but may be u need it rarely with last games versions.nd u have put maaaaaaaaaany vid card to compare between yhem but i guess tha the link that  friends put are enough to help
