Solve : Can't disable tap to click on mouse?? Please help!?

Answer»

I just had to reload Windows after a crash, and now I can't get the "tapping" option disabled for the mouse. I tried reinstalling the driver, and I tried installing the driver on the Synaptics website (useless...). I used to have options to do with mouse orientation and the scrolling on the side of the pad, and an option to turn off clicking but I can't remember how I got them there!!

I am running Windows XP on an HP Pavilion 2840 laptop. I ALREADY have all the drivers provided from HP's website...After installing the OS you need to first install the chipset driver, then all other drivers. Did you do that?lol i have no idea ?? what's a chipset?

ok so say i didn't do that, how do i fix that now?If you don't have the driver disc that came with your system, download all of the correct drivers for your laptop from the HP website and install them.I have ... I've installed all of them though not necessarily in any order (SATA drive first obviously though)
and the driver from Synaptics doesn't have an option to turn off tapping.http://www.winbookcorp.com/_technote/WBTA00000847.htmwow, where'd you find that? OK I'm going to try downloading that driver for the third time, but when I open the advanced settings I don't get anything but a help file  lol not sure why i bothered, or who made up those instructions. there's no section for tapping. just really obvious intructions. You are going to CONTROL PANEL - MOUSE, correct (as opposed to a different driver APP that may have installed with the driver)? Clearly that option to disable "tapping" should be there.hey thanks but i'm not retarded. it's not there.the synaptics driver is not installed.

My laptop has a "Synaptics" tab on the mouse control panel. within that tab I need to select the touchpad in a listbox and select settings, which brings up another window full of touchpad specific options, including tap-to-click.omg read the original thread... I've already tried installing it! Quote from: Sophie.annelies on April 07, 2010, 01:57:24 AM

Any other threads I should read?

If the option isn't there, the driver isn't installed. It's that simple. Either that, or you installed the wrong ONE. Quote from: Sophie.annelies on April 07, 2010, 01:57:24 AM

Lose the attitude. We're trying to help. If you don't like the help you are getting here....

And clearly BC is correct - the Synaptics driver has not been properly installed or you don't see the options that are there. Those are the two choices. Not sure how else to install it, I've also tried a random driver from the HP website .. just turned out to be Synaptics again lol. Maybe I'll just contact them? :S
