Answer» I have a Windows XP Home Edition,Version 2002,Service Pack 3, Dell, AMD Athlon(tm) 64 processor 3700+, Gateway
My computer crashed and my friend got it back up and working again, but for some reason my sound doesn't work and i don't know why..I am guessing i need to download the sound card..
Under sounds and audio devices properties it says no audio devices btw.Look for your sound drivers on the Driver Gateway CD that came with the machine... If he re-installed XP then you should re-install the MBoard drivers from there as well...Any other way? Since i don't have that cd?Sure. Travel to Gateway's site and look up your Model # in the Support/Downloads section...Wouldn't be fun if it was that EASY eh? xD I can't find out my model number the sticker with it was ripped off. On it was also the serial number. DLoad, install and run Everest Home.....and save the report as a text file... Post the Computer Summary info here...nothing under the Debug section and we'll have a looksee.Really quick. I dL'ed a driver scanner and for the sound, VIDEO and game controllers part is says i need realtek AC'97 Audio for VIA (R) Audio controller.. could it be it? Just wondering before i try the Everest Home Edition 2.20
edit: Never mind. I just check the drivers my computer has for sound and it lists Audio Codecs Legacy Audio Drivers Legacy Video Capture Devices Media Control Devices Realtek AC'97 Audio for VIA (R) Audio controller Video Codecs
Uh, ill try the thing you said now. Oh yea i forgot what i did but i got an error that said failed to open waveform output device..if that means anything ----Summary---

This? Thanks for all your help btw I had a similar problem this weekend. Go to the website of the manufacturers of the speakers. in my case it was acer as they were the speakers that came with the PC. Download the right driver for your PC and then just run the .exe file. My problem was with the AC97 as well so hopefully this will help.bump?
