Answer» Hi. Perhaps someone can help...I recently installed windows 2000pro with service pack 4 all critical and optional windows updates including, windows IE, media player, AVG antivirus. Other useful programs were installed also as was a INTERNET wireless connection. Just yesterday, I uninstalled a couple of programs and AVG discoverd a "expolit virus". This took a while to ERASE as it reappeared multiple times before AVG finally healed and deleted it. Now I can't install any applications/programs from any drive A,C,D or e. I can view files and folders in all drives, download etc, but once I try to install it, comes up with this message:
You are not permitted to EXECUTE the following program c:\......... PLEASE contact your administrator if you require access
However, I am the Administrator so I don't know whats goin' on...this is sooo frustrating...is this a result of the virus attack or someting else...have scoped the net for hours trying to find a solution...my last attempt for help before I consider formatting the drive and REINSTALLING windows.
Robert. What was the name of the infection ? ? Check the AVG test logs for a name.Hi. The exploit virus is either: Exploit.MS04-011 or Exploit.MS04-011!CME-875 Hope this helps.
Cheers RobertThat's a version of the LSass virus. List all your current protection programs and in the meantime DLoad and install Hijack This. Install it into it's own directory and run a scan. DO NOT ATTEMPT ANY FIXES YET. Save the log as a text file and post it in our Virus and Spyware section and one of our resident experts will be along shortly. Posting the log may take 2 or 3 posts.
