Solve : Cannot open a .tl file?

Answer»

My wife created a cd disc of family pictures. They all have a .tl FILE extension. I have spent the better part of an hour trying to research how to open them without success. No idea what program she used to create them. I can display the various files as content of the cd but cannot open them. Anyone have a suggestion of what will open them? truenorth
P.S. My wife claims that all these files were either jpeg or bitmap and a software burning program called Roxio Easy CD Creator was used to burn them to disc.Best I can find is that it's an "Open Track List" file, which is only used for recording sound tra

is it at all possible they accidentally entered a nonstandard file extension when saving?

OpenTL is a format supported by Roxio, though.[The OpenTL (Open Track List) format is mainly used for data exchange with Tascam hard disk recorders, such as the MX2424. It only supports the exchange of audio data (audio media and the use of this audio media in a project). MIDI and automation data is ignored when using the export functions.] http://documentation.apple.com/en/logicexpress/usermanual/index.html#chapter=32%26section=7%26tasks=true

Try copying the files to your HDD and renaming the file extension to jpg/bmp...BC & Transfusion, Thanks GUYS . Yes the points that you both mentioned were presented in my searches. Certainly would NOT have been a user selected choice to use that type of save function (Roxio) that would have resulted in the .tl extension. The only saving grace is (and please let us keep it our secret) my wife has a bad habit of NEVER deleting anything so while they are scattered all over her HDD they are still ALL there. This is far from the 1st time she has used the ROXIO (infact she says it is the ONLY burning program she uses) to perform this task. She is on automatic updates and was wondering if some recent update caused this file association to kick in.
"Try copying the files to your HDD and renaming the file extension to jpg/bmp." This would not be possible FROM the cd disc but for the reason stated earlier this already exists with the original pictures which she still has. truenorthQuote from: truenorth on July 08, 2011, 08:00:04 AM

This would not be possible FROM the cd disc ...
Why not?

Edit: You might at least try it. soybean, I believe in order to be able to do something/anything with them i would need to be able to do more than just display them as icons and determine their properties. As i stated in my original post this is all i can do " I can display the various files as content of the cd but cannot open them. " I don't know if this is the manner that you are suggesting. However as an example if i place the cd in the optical drive and open the content of the disc (using explorer) then i right click on a particular file many options are presented for dealing with it. Properties/send to/etc/etc. However trying to perform most items (such as send to=my documents) results in a never ending activity light on the optical device but never an execution of the chosen action. All this to say i have tried and no opportunities ever arise to do anything with the cd files. truenorthIts because you cannot change a files properties when it's on a CD...
Copy 1 to a FOLDER on your HDD and then try the suggestion of renaming the file...Patio, Yes i do understand that anything on a CD/DVD is for want of a better expression "hardwired" and cannot be altered whilst in that medium. It was my understanding that what Soybean was suggesting was to take one of the files (from the cd) and relocate it to a HDD then change it. Now i am beginning to wonder if what you (and perhaps he also ) are suggesting is to go to the original file (which as stated is still on her HDD) and change THAT file to a jpeg or whatever and locate the resultant image on her HDD. However as i already stated there is really NO reason to do that as they are ALL already a jpeg or bitmap.
To see if i could add more to this issue i just went up to her computer and selected 670 mb of photos (all jpegs or bitmaps) from files on her HDD and had her burn them using Roxio Easy Cd Creator (data disc) to a cd-r disc. The only DIFFERENCE created was that previously ALL her stored pictures were associated with a viewer called "Zoner". She uninstalled that software and they all became associated with a software we have by "Magix". Really cannot see how that would have made any difference. The newly created disc has all the images she burned VIEWABLE and all are jpeg or bitmap as they were before being burned to the cd. So as to why and how the disc that prompted this post came out with .tl files is a conundrum.truenorth
