vlc media file (.avi)
If it is an avi format file then it must be played by VLC player. but Its something different.
I have tried with
VLC media player, Windows media player, Real player

Why don't you try KMPlayer or GOM player, I’ve always using both of them to play movie and those two are working well with avi formatThe fact that it's described as a vlc file SIMPLY means that vlc media player is your default player for that TYPE of file (.avi in this case). But it should play with any media player capable of playing .avi files.
