Solve : Cant re-install Printer software after problem?

Answer»

Hi I have a Fujitsu Siemens laptop & a Canon PixmaMP160 printer. I have USED some compatible ink cartridges that I have topped up using a syringe. Recently I had a problem printing or TRYING to scan items & a message CODE came up. I decided to uninstall the software, when I tried to reinstall the software (OE item that came with the printer), the CD spins & says its installing but although it says the installation is COMPLETE, when I go to control panel it's not installed. I have tried a restart since installing the software but that doesn't make any difference, can someone please help. Thanks Disconnect the printer while installing the software if it's a USB connection.Do as Patio SUGGESTS.  Used to be you would install the hardware first, then the software.  Now it 's backwards.  Uninstall the software, disconnect the printer, reinstall the software.  It will tell you when to connect the printer.

Alan <><  Hi Thanks. the printer wasn't connected anyway I just tried to reinstall the software from the Original CD that came with the printer.

Ive looked in control panel & the only canon reference left in there refers to on line registration.

The software CD doesn't seem to spin up when I install it into the machine. it just spins slowly & clicks.

other Cd's will spin up & open.

By the way I'm running windows XP.

Further advice pls

Thanks Dave

I would order a new CD or DLoad the software from the Canon site...Go to the Canon website and download the software for Windows XP
When installing the softare make sure the printer isn't connected.Hi Thanks we have managed to re-install the software

Cheers
