Solve : CD Drive not found? |
|
Answer» My CD Drive is not found so it will not PLAY any CD or DVD. I have a DELL Inspiron E1505. And use Windows XP. When looking in Device Manager the Drive no longer shows up. What is wrong? and how can I fix this problem? What happened between the last time it worked and now (new hw, sw, error, virus)? And if you insert a bootable cd in the drive and reboot (with the cd as the first boot device in bios) does the system see the drive at boot?I have no IDEA what happened between the time it worked and now. I honestly hardly ever use the drive and could not tell you the last time it was used. My norton has expired and I recently purchased new norton to download. The drive will open but will not read my disc. It also will not even show that the CD drive is even there. When talking about the reboot do you mean restarting my computer? If so no, it still does not recognize the drive. Quote from: kricks on December 17, 2009, 04:33:01 PM When talking about the reboot do you mean restarting my computer? If so, and if the system doesn't see it at boot, the drive is shot.Quote It also will not even show that the CD drive is even there Just to expand a little on what Allen was saying, before checking the boot order of the CD drive, make sure it it showing up in CMOS/BIOS, period If it doesn't show in cmos, it will not show up anywhere else. If it is not showing, Check the PATA/SATA cables, re seat them...reboot, enter cmos and see if it is there.. If the drive still doesn't show up, try plugging the cable into another connector on the board... If it still doesn't show in cmos/bios, then it could mean that the power SUPPLY isn't delivering the right voltages and trying another AVAILABLE power connector from the psu could help (assuming that the power supply isn't failing) At this point, if the drive still isn't showing up in cmos/bios, the drive is broke and you can forget about putting it first in the boot order, or any thing else edit: you could also try the drive in another computer... If it works then the problem is something on your computer, if it doesn't work, then the drive is definitely broke Quote from: EEVIAC on December 17, 2009, 05:13:12 PM All good things to try, BUT it's a DELL Inspiron E1505 laptop. so anything but the BIOS stuff won't work. I guess it would have helped it I read the original post more carefully Have you got iTunes installed? |
