Answer» okay, the task of trying to figure out why this is happening has been frustrating me for about 3 HOURS now. I can't seem so FIND anyone with a similar problem, so if anyone can help Id be very thankful.
My CD Drive did work fine until today. This is what HAPPENS.. My Drive now Reads DVD-RAM Drive when no cd is in, When I put a cd in the name changes to CD Drive and nothing else happens, its as if there is no cd in at all... it doesnt run.. Unless... I put in a DVD R/RW... then it works... Ive tried putting in CD R/RW, nothing. I've put in bought cd's, nothing. It wont even read my windows disc.... whats wrong with it?
It used to read all cd's, but thats when it stayed with the name CD Drive at all times, instead of changing back and FOURTH between CD and DVD-RAM.
Can anyone help Those DRIVES have TWO lenses, one for CDs, one for DVDs. Your CD lens may be dirty (try lens cleaner - never worked for me), or is dead. Also keep in mind that the drive will show the designation of whatever type of CD was in it last even after a reboot until another type is used...
