Please don't POST in all capital letters. It's harder to read and in a forum/chat context it is considered the text EQUIVALENT of shouting.
Second of all. It doesn't sound good when you say the drive wont read discs most of the time. This could be a sign the drive is failing. How old is the laptop/cd drive?sorry about the fonts stuff buddy the discussed notebook was bought in december 2005 and to the besst of my knowledge in this period this laptop was only used for newspaper reading ,haradly one cd was burned through it and rarely this drive was used movie stuff one more thing i have download a utility from ibm that called pc doctor and has a test for drive chek and this test shows this drive was failed in all kind of test , so i guess it is gone if any body has a solution kindly let me know appreciateWell, there isn't a firmware update.

If your goal is to not be here long you are on the right track.
