Solve : CD/DVD drive won't play audio Cd's.?

Answer»

Alright. Hopefully SOMEONE can help. When I put a audio Cd in my computer, it asks what I want to do with it. Play, rip, burn. etc... well when I CLICK on play. It says the extension doesn't work. It is very annoying. I talked with dell, my computer manufacturer , and they sent me a new CD-drive to replace the old one and I'm still having the same problem so it isn't the drive. Any ideas? If you need anymore INFO I'll be happy to give it to you. Thanks.Yes, more information is always needed. What happened prior to this? Other issues with the machine? Have you added or removed software or hardware lately? I am assuming it has not always been this way so when did it work last and what has changed?I'm pretty sure it started happening when I completely wiped windows and reinstalled a fresh copy because I had a virus/spyware problem.. After I reinstalled windows XP, my machine wouldn't find any audio devices, but I just installed the DRIVERS. It may have also happened when I installed Itunes. I tried uninstalling Itunes, but it still doesn't work. The only hardware that has changed is the replacement of the exact same CD drive model that I put in today and still didn't work. I don't really think Itunes was the cause though. If you need more information just ask. What SOUND drivers did you install ? ?
Did you re-install the MBoard drivers after re-installing XP ? ?
This should be one of the first steps...if this does not resolve your issue then dload and run Everest Home and post a report of what's in that machine.
