Answer» Any ideas PLEASE how to open some old Claris Works files in WIN XP Pro SP3 or WIN 98 SE? I have tried Notepad, Wordpad, Open Office all with a lack of success. If you have access to a Mac with iWorks, SUPPOSEDLY it will open old ClarisWorks files. Then you can save it into something that can be read by a Windows program.
Or for $30, you can order a Windows-based program to convert them: http://www.macdisk.com/mactxten.php3
I've seen mention of AbiWord being used to open them and save them as a different format on the OpenOffice.org forums. AbiWord's website lists a converter for the files, but the converter is still in development and may not open the files properly: http://www.abisource.com/
According to Microsoft, up to the 98 EDITIONS, no MS Office products would open ClarisWorks files. I'm not sure about newer ones as they don't mention anything beyond that (I assume this article is old). Thanks Quaxo, I will give Abi a try. Certainly are old files, I put them on a f/d about 12 or more years ago! I am beginning to think that the best security for files is to use an old program that most computers can't read today!Let us know how you make out. It would be good to know for future reference. No luck with Abi. So will keep searching. Thanks for the suggestion though.See here: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070906140341AA3y4Ok
