Solve : Cleaning up after a windows overlay?

Answer»

I am trying to "clean up" after a windows overlay was done to clean up duplicate files and programs. I am not a genius when it COMES to computers so I don't want to trash important programs.

O/S Windows xp

Cause of crash - believed to be norton system works. We have a new system and I want to FIX this one for kids to use.

I think I have MOVED most of important files to an external HD.

What is my best plan to clean it up (5% free space on HD)?
Is there a program to help find duplicate files or nonsense that can be deleted?
Should I wipe it completely clean if so should I use one of the programs available or is there directions SOMEWHERE? Or is it probably wise to pay someone to do this for me?

We have just been dealing with it for a while and I wanted to reinstall the wireless modem and it is trying to INSTALL to drive g which doesn't exist so all I get is errors. Which is making me think the best plan is to wipe it clean.

Thanks so much
