Solve : computer hanging on starting up?

Answer»

my celeron d processor is now taking more time to boot it shows the intel board dispay and then taking lot of time to show windows LOGO and operate, so i tried to format by putting windows xp installation cd but its not booting from cd inspite of my bios set to boot from cd first priority please help.now on pressing delete key to enter bios only bios is dispayed no priority device is listed please helpSimilar happened to me a few years back - had to TAKE it in. It was a faulty power supply unit...Did you make any changes to the computer before this started happening?  Did you install a new program or a new piece of hardware?  Do you have anti-virus protection?  This problem COULD be hardware related or software related.  Without knowing more it's hard to say what the problem is.  now i found that my bios is set to boot from hard disc 1st priority and floppy second  third is DISABLED. i never did this.  i tried to get cd drive as 1st priority but it is not listed in bios but my combo drive takes up cd and plays how to get back cd drive as priority device. is my bios corrupted.my system boots only initial part is slow Quote from: kenlittin on January 18, 2008, 06:49:54 AM

I doubt the bios is corrupted.  You would have gotten an error MESSAGE and/or the blue screen of death.  You probably made changes to the boot priority and didn't save them.  The boot order you mentioned 1st-Hard disk, 2nd-Floppy disk 3rd-disabled is default.  Use the +- arrows to change it and remember to save it.  Read the bottom of the screen, I thin k it is usually F10 to save settings and exit.thanks   i got i t right i just took of cmos battery and reinserted it and restarted bios again detected cd drive so reformatted it
