Solve : Corrupt Outlook 2000 data recovery problem?

Answer»

While running Outlook 2000 away from home, my data became CORRUPT. I attempted to use "Detect and Repair," which I have successfully used before. However, the program required that I insert the original CD, which was not available.

I was given the option to open an existing Personal Folder or to create a new one. Since I didn't have the CD and couldn't open the corrupted existing Personal Folder, I created a new one. When I did so, I discovered that my old folder names were gone and that I no longer had access to my old email.

When I RETURNED home, I inserted the original CD, and ran "Detect and Repair." It didn't help.

I had assumed that Outlook would create a "new" Personal Folder, but it appears that it has overwritten the old one. At least I can't find it. I have searched everywhere for .pst files, with no luck. The new personal folder is called "Personal Folders (1).pst." It seems to me that the old file should have therefore been called "Personal Folders.pst," but it is nowhere to be found.

BTW, I had created a backup of everything before I left home USING Bounceback Professional, but when I attempted to restore from it, it showed that the Outlook data had been deleted. I had never seen that before. Lucky me!

I had another OLD backup (about a month old) on a Western Digital Passport drive which I was able to recover, but I discovered that the default settings did not BACK up the attachments, which contain crucial data.

Is there any way to restore my original data, complete with attachments, or am I completely out of luck? Any help would be sincerely appreciated.

Many thanks.

Greg
