Solve : Custom Desktop w/3rd Party Icons? |
|
Answer» HELLO. I believe I've reached a dead end. I'm attempting to customize a desktop. I'd like have the option to load various wallpaper, and have an icon set w/the positions remembered, with them. Simple enough, but here's the thing... I've FOUND apps that do the above, with a glaring exception. The problem is my third party apps that are on the desktop, which make up the majority of what's there. All the apps I find effect only the SYSTEM apps, of which I use all of two - fairly useless in this case. I'm actually building a system for a friend, and would like them to have multiple desktop options (at a click if possible), where the icons I've created sit nicely with the various wallpapers, both in style and position. Are there no apps that can recall different themes/sets I create for third party app icons? Am I looking for something that simply doesn't exist? I'm at a loss and my Google fingers are falling off. Thanks much for any info! (running XP Pro)How about you do us a favor? Did you look at this: http://www.wincustomize.com/ We would like to know if this stuff is for real. Many of us would like to do just like what you said. But it is hard to find the right combo of 3rd party stuff that is good. Meanwhile, here is a site that has been around and is legit for sure. http://www.easyapps.com/ Quote from: Geek-9pm on April 03, 2009, 08:41:18 AM ... Did you look at this:... Yes. The first site does link to legitimate software - some free, some not. It's little more than an ad for 'Stardock' though (almost entirely Stardock products linked to). Good software, but you may as well just go to their site. Software is all legit there so far as I can see (I've tried a fair amount of it now) but it doesn't accomplish my task unfortunately. Afraid I can't seem to connect to the easy apps link. Thanks for the response.sounds like you want a Multiple desktop switcher. you could try "Desktops": http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/cc817881.aspx?ppud=4 I don't know of a way to get it to save an ENTIRE theme for that desktop, though. I'll take a closer look.Like I say- it doesn't cover the different theme requirement, but if I recall my experiments with it a few months ago it allowed the separate desktops to contain different wallpaper and icons; which is pretty close |
