Solve : D-Link Driver?

Answer»

Hi all.
OS = XP Home.
I sat on my daughters d-link DWL g132 wireless adapter.
I bought her a new one, thought it would just plug STRAIGHT in with no messing, it didn't.
Thought the driver may be different, however, I cannot delete the old d link software nor can i install the new, It starts to do something then just stops.
I have tried add remove and uninstalling it manually but no luck.
I have also ran a reg cleaner in case it had left something making the install disc think it was ALREADY installed.
I have alaso tried system restore.
Any clues?
Cheershow about uninstalling/installing the driver in safe mode..Possibly a good idea before i got a bit mad and started uninstalling manually.
i am now in the process of SEARCHING the registry as i cannot find any trace of any dlink or air plus stuff on the c drive.
Cheers. Well, deleted all traces of dlink/airplus, still the driver wil not install.
What could i have done to upset it so?What sort of error do you get? Is it still indicating that the driver is already installed? Did you disable the adapter in the Device Manager?

Another basic: You might try physically removing the adapter, too.Quote

Actually this should be done to properly un-install any driver...if the OS can still see the device it may default to the Windows drivers instead...Hi both.
No error message, it tells me it is preparing to install, then it goes to the second window where the blue progress bar gets to halfway then the window shuts down and there is no further activity.
ALL traces that i can see have been removed.
I uninstalled the device in device manager.
There is no sign of a driver in add remove.
I have done a search of the registry for anything to do with D-Link or Air Plus.
There are no folders in C drive to do with either of the above.
I'm stumped!!Remove the physical device from the computer and boot the computer a two or three times. Aegis, the device and ALL visible links to the device have been removed, the pc has been rebooted a ZILLION times.
I have since tried a format. No go.
I have tried the original xp home disc, i get an error, File\i386\ntkrnlmp.exe could not be loaded. The error code is 7.
I have Googled this and it looks like a bios problem.
I have also tried my own XP pro disc and i get , The file asc 350p is corrupted.
I don't know if it will work but if i get time tomorrow i will go into the bios and reset to factory settings and see what happens.
I have noticed a message on boot up that mentions the bios and sometimes i have to press F1 to load windows.
Perhaps the mobo is dying!! It is LOTS of years old after all.
As i wrote that i thought about the CMOS battery, the mobo is possibly 6 or more years old, i haven't had any warnings but perhaps the battery is underpowered??
*censored* these machines......fun though aint it?
Any more pointers or thoughts on the above much appreciated.New CMOS battery...4 Bucks.
Reset CMOS to default values...
Run HDD diagnostics when finished and before trying anything else.I shall give it a go and see what happens.
It only needs to last til xmas as she is having a laptop.
Then it can go in the bin!
