Solve : Desktop Icons slight change?

Answer»

Today I noticed a small change to my DESKTOP icons.
Most icons now show, in bottom left corner, a small white box containing a black arrow that is sort of bending to point to the CENTRE of the icon. Everything seems to work ok, but I'm curious as to why this change has occured.
If it's relevant - yesterday I had to reinstall my ISP (AOL).
I have Windows XP + AVG.Are they sortcuts? When you click on them do they open what they indicate? The little arrows do indicate SHORTCUTS, there is a way to remove them but I forget it.
I prefer to have them anyway.Quote

Tweak UI for Windows XP can remove those arrows. Microsoft Powertoys.
Did you repair it from Windows itself?

The danger as I see it in removing the arrow from the SHORTCUT is ...that once it's REMOVED ........ the user may inadvertantly delete a file or folder they may require .

dl65 Thanks for replies.

It seems to make no difference where he curser arrow is pointing within the icon, a double click operates the shortcut.

As it works ok I'll leave well alone. I just wondered what might have caused the change.Quote
