Answer» Good Day fellow forum member, i working on a Dell Latitude C600 running on Windows XP. I've been trying to load to safe mode, to get to the Device Manager but it not getting to Safe Mode, but its not responding. What do I do? I NEED anyone's opinion. Patiently waiting. I think we need to know some more on the background of this problem.
Why can't you get into NORMAL Mode? Any error messages?
What's happened?I switch on the system, waits for it to boot, but it boots to a black blank screen with a messege "disk error" "press F2 to load setup" What happened before the problem started? (downloads/installs/hardware changes/ect...)
Did the laptop take any drops or hits?
How OLD is the laptop? The laptop is actually not mine, i just wanna help a friend fix it. That means i have to get those info, but the laptop looks quite old maybe over 2yrs old. I suspect the HDD lost its boot record. Can loading last known good setting help.No harm in trying.Infact, that's what I've been trying, but proved abortiveDo you happen to have the Windows XP CD?
I suggest trying the following: http://kb.wisc.edu/helpdesk/page.php?id=5097Thanks so so much Carbon Dudeoxide, i guess i now have to go purchase the XP CD to run chkdsk. May i ask pls? Is it an Installation CD or BOOTABLE CD would I get? You're a genius;-)You would want the installation CD (which is bootable).
