Solve : "dma is shut off" message, sonic dvd burning program?

Answer» HELLO! back again with some more computer problems...

My computer came with the program Sonic DigitalMedia LE v. 7. I've been trying to use it to burn DVDS, but when I go to open the program to start the project I get a message that says something along these lines:

"MyDVD has detected that DMA is turned off for one or more of the recording devices attatched to the system. In ORDER to successfully write to the device, DMA should be turned on..."

I'm pretty sure someone's going to ask about these settings, so here are screen shots of what they're set at.

If anyone has any suggestions on what to do, that'd be great. My DVD looks like a nifty DVD program : )Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager...right click Secondary IDE controller and select Properties....choose UDMA from the drop down list and save the changes and exit.

NOTE This only applies if your burner is NOT on the same ribbon cable as your hard drive...how do i know if my burner is on the same ribbon cable as my harddrive?

my computer: Dell Inspiron E1505 (laptop)
* windows XP media center edition 2005 with SP 2(supposedly)
* 1.66 GHZ processor
* 980MHz, .99 GB RAManyone else have any thoughts on how to fix this?You never stated it was a laptop til now...
That's why we thrive on details.
So you can safely follow the instructions originally listed.
Then you could try DLoading and installing CDBurnerXPro...Free.
Uninstall Sonic if you have the CD to re-install it but i wouldn't....it's probably the worst burning program out there and may be the source of the issues.I had the same problem...you have to go your contrl panel to add and remove then click down til you find the program.uninstall it.after it is uninstall go to start (lower left hand corner) all programs...find PC help and TOOLS....a list will come on go to application recovery.....find your program and reinstall it.good as new good luck
