Solve : Downloading McAfee...?

Answer» Yep, me again. So I'm trying to download McAfee (haha, thanks now LET's get some help going) and I won't load beyond maybe 46% or so then it posts the  UNABLE TO CONTINUE DOWNLOAD MESSAGE. Reason given ERROR 12152.  I'm sure you know what that is but just in case...

Now I would also like to know if my Windows Firewall is ON during the download could that be the cause of the stopping?

Yes, I have a slow speed but last time I loaded McAfee it took about 6 hours or less. this time it's telling me it will take 99 hr+ to load.  And the time left keeps going from 99 hrs. to less than an hour then back to 99 then little more than 2 hrs. In other words it fluctuates. I'm not sure if that is due to the number of products coming in or it's hitting a snag often.

Thanks for your help.

Good evening casse2go

If you have a slower internet connection I would go to local store and purchase McAfee or buy it online. The download time that windows tells you will vary and the time will change and go up and down. Just because it may say x amount of time that will change.

The error you are getting is McAfee telling you it is timing out on the download.

Hope this helps, Mike  Hi Mike,

Thanks for your reply... what I'm going to do right now is try the remedy for 12152 ERROR. I think it was the Norton Security Scan in my programs that was the stopage, so I uninstalled it. I'll let you know how it goes either way. Mike I have always had a slower modem even on my first download of McAfee, but it didn't take more than 5 or 6 hrs to load the suite. This one is 131937.85KB and I started loading it at around 11:30 yesterday. It never got halfway.

Now even when McAfee scans my comp of its more than 266000+ files it takes only about 9 hours. Anyway, I've gotten rid of NSS and now I'm going to my restart and back to the download. Let's hope it works. This is really wearing on me.

Thanks again Mike...
Personally I think not being able to download any McAfee products is a positive, not a negative. They are, in my opinion, awful products and if I were you I would use ANYTHING else.Thank you Allan, however, there are advantages to even what appears to be a disadvantage.

Now, I did indeed uninstall Norton Security Scan from my Programs and Features as indicated in the ERROR 12152. As a result the download went without event and is now complete.

Thank you again Mike for your post, and you as well Allan.

If I may I would like to say something and hope that you guys can tell me why it is.

AOL users are or should be quite familiar with that little pop up asking us if we want to stay on-line, YES or NO. (and that awful notification noise). If you leave your comp unattended for maybe 45 mins or so, it goes off, and some time later if you don't select YES you'll be booted from on-line.

Well I have found that if you open TWITTER (and there must be other SITES) you can leave the comp for as long as you want and that pop up will not come in.  I'm thinking maybe it's because The Twit always has some activity, but can you guys tell me why that is.

Thanks...
Good evening casse2go and welcome back

I think I know what you are talking about it is a timer for AOL customers on dial up service if I remember right. Why twitter would affect this I have no idea. Is your AOL account associated with twitter that may be why and see's that as activity.

I do know that years ago there used to be a little program that took care of the AOL timer and I don't remember what the name was and I think it worked with AOL 6.0 or 7.0 possibly but I am not sure if it will work with the newer versions of AOL.

Hope this helps. Mike      Yeah, the AOL Idle Timer. They say it's associated with the Child Guards and it can't be turned off. Also that it is because so many people are online or trying to come online the phones are always tied up with day long users. Okay, but I pay AOL to be on-line as long as I want without them prompting me whenever I leave my comp for 30 minutes or so.  Plus, I have no child guards on; I have no CHILDREN in my home.

So AOL refuses to turn the darned thing off even with constant complaints over the years; they say it can't be turned off. I say, anything that can be activated can be deactivated.

Is The Twit associated with AOL? I have no idea. I did a quiz about the Twit and I never saw anything about it being associated with AOL. Maybe in the last year as my quiz went up more than a year ago. How would my AOL acct be tied in to The Twit? I can ask someone Twiter if they're under the AOL umbrella.  I'm gonna experiment with a few other sites that have constant posting. I still like learning how and why.

Thanks Mike
