Solve : Drive can read audio CD, but not CD-ROM?

1.	Solve : Drive can read audio CD, but not CD-ROM?
Answer» Compaq Presario PC running Windows ME. Drive is Philips CDD4801 CD-R/RW. About a month ago, STARTED having a problem WHEREBY the drive can successfully read Audio CDs, but when a data CD is inserted, the PC hangs. Need to power cycle the PC to recover. I don't believe this is a hardware problem because the drive can read the audio CDs fine.Does it hang with any CD? If so, your CD ROM drive either NEEDS cleaning, or it has died. CDRW drives tend to have shorter lives than other drives and are very dirt-sensitive.Rob: Audio CDs work fine. Any other CD I've tried (store-bought STUFF like TurboTax) will hang the PC. If it was a hardware problem, I would suspect that the audio CDs would also not work.Who made that up?Audio CDs require different access methods and speeds to CDROMs. Audio retrieval is much less demanding than data retrieval.
