Solve : Driver / CD ROM Does not Play XP Pro?

Answer»

I just formatted my PC with XP Pro. The CDRW Drive was not playing anything for months, it did work at one time. although it appeared in Device Manager and said " Device is WORKING Properly" so I tried a format & reinstall.

I formatted using a Boot Floppy, then did a clean INSTALL of XP PRO, using the same CDRW Drive and it WORKED fine, during the XP install.

Once XP PRO was installed, I was back to the same situation, with the Drive not Playing anything, yet it just installed XP from the same Drive. I have tried downloading drivers, but nothing seems to get it working in XP, it says its there in Device Manager & working Properly, how do i get this Philips CDRW 4800 Drive to work in XP PRO.

Please Help!! I'm at my witts end, I know it has to be something simple, but what is the solution? Hope someone can help me, ThanksDownload and try CDBurnerXPPro and tell us what happens.

GoHereCDBurnerXPPro that I downloaded from your link street1, says .net framework needs to be installed, will this resolve the issue or is that only needed to install CDBurnerXPPro Software???What says that?Ok I downloaded .net framework and installed the CDBurnerXPPro from that link, but still no joy, CDRW Drive is still not reading any CD's in XP ProTry one of these:
1. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060
or...
2. http://aumha.org/downloads/cdgone.zip
or...
3. Go to Device Manager, click a "+" sign next to IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers.
You'll see two items:
- ATA Channel0 (or Primary Channel)
- ATA Channel1 (or Secondary Channel)
Right click on each of them, and click Uninstal. Confirm.
Restart Windows. They'll be automatically reinstalled.OK, Broni, I've tried all that you have said and it's still the same, the drive, was detected after I deleted - ATA Channel1 (or Secondary Channel) and rebooted. But the CD RW Drive is still not playing anything in Win XP Pro, although it shows up as Drive F: in Windoze, I even added that .reg key, but still no joy

Do you have any other suggestions that might help, thanks for your help Quote

in Windoze, I even added that .reg key
You're suppose to remove, not add registry keys. You gave me the link for CDGONE.ZIP to add the registry KEY, or did it remove keys? Anyway I did what you said and still no joy Right click the drive in Device Manager and remove it...you will get a warning message ...ignore it and re-boot.
See if the drive works now...if not move it to another machine to confirm it has passed on...Quote

I already tried that, no luck, the drive works, patio because I used it to reinstall XP Pro, but once XP is reinstalled it wont read any disks even tho it there as Drive F:\. Is there a way to add it to the Autoexec.bat or is that obsolete in Win XP PRO??

This is my friends PC who is having this prob, now thinking about it he had the same prob with another CD Drive in this same machine, (even tho I know that drive worked ok too) so we replaced it with this one and it worked fine, but that was some time ago now and SINCE the last two formats it shows up but wont read any disks in XP... even tho it allowed me to reinstall the system with this Drive, very strange it then wont read any disks now

Any ideas ?? What else could be causing this issue, do you know please help, thanksThe only way to check the drive is to try it in another computer.
