Solve : DVD Burner will not recognize or burn CD-roms anymore.?

Answer»

I have a Lite-On DVDRW SOHW-1633S DVD Burner that stopped recognizing and/or burning CD-Roms.  It will not even recognize an audio CD.  Ironically it will still recognize, play and BURN DVD's just fine.  I have tried several different CD's to make sure it's not a problem with a particular brand but it's not.  I have been to the Lite-On website and downloaded what I thought was an upgrade but it won't work either.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

My computer specs:

HP PAVILION a1010n
Windows XP SP3
Intel Celeron D 2.93 GHz
1.49 GB of ram

If you need more info, I will gladly do so.

Thanks!
It looks like CD reading and/or burning laser(s) are out.Broni is right. Not the answer I wanted to hear  but I appreciate the response.  Guess it's time to beg the wife for another burner!  Thanks!! When shopping for a new burner, consider:
1. Brand name models.
2. One YEAR warranty.
3. Vendor with fair  return policy.

The third point is in case the problem was not really the DVD drive and you WANT to send the new one back.
