Solve : Dvd drives not working.........help please!!!?

Answer»

My dvd drives were working last nite, but now i cant access them in the start menu under computer. When i pull up properties, it tells me that Windows cannot load the device DRIVER for the software and it says code 39. What can I do to fix this? My drives have been working fine until just the other dayFind them in Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager...
Right click each one and select uninstall/remove.
Windows will re-install them automatically on re-boot...

What happened prior to this and what burning apps are you running ? ?

Also if the machine has been moved recently you may want to remove a side panel and check the cabling...but if you are GETTING an error message this is probably not a factor. If patio's advice won't help...

Try one of these:
1. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060
or...
2. Download, and run Restore Missing CD Drive patch
Double click on downloaded file, and allow registry merge.
or...
3. Go to Device Manager, click a "+" sign next to IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers.
You'll see TWO items:
- ATA Channel0 (or Primary Channel)
- ATA Channel1 (or Secondary Channel)
Right click on each of them, and click Uninstall. Confirm.
Restart Windows. They'll be automatically reinstalled.i tried to unplug them and reboot, but when windows started it said the device drivers failed to load and its showing the error code 39. It was working fine last nite and I didnt do anything DIFFERENT, it just stopped working on me. I tried a system restore and it worked but then the drives disappeared again from the computer menu. Do you know what could be causing it? what do I need to do to fix it? thanksDid you read patio's, and mine replies?yes, i tried to uninstall the drivers and reboot but that didnt work, is it safe to run the "restore missing cd drive patch" link?Does this forum look like "MALWARE Planters Ultimate"?no sorry, k what do i do after i open the files, they are in a compressed folderDouble click on cdgone.zip to unzip it.
Right click on cdgone.reg, click Merge.
Accept registry merge.
