Answer» About a month ago My DVD & CD rom drives are not showing up using windows explorer or my computer. and I can't play anything on either drive. I have XP about a year old. The D & E drives showed up the other day right after booting up the computer, then they disappeared a few seconds later. POOF just fanished. If I put a disk in either drive it will not run even a boot cd will not run. Its gotta be a software problem. Can someone help? Thank you kksd: Are the optical drives external or internal? If internal, have you opened up the case of the system and checked to see that the data cable is PROPERLY seated (i.e., firmly connected to both the motherboard and the optical drives)? If external, have you tried plugging them in to a DIFFERENT USB port? Best REGARDS, DOC
